    IUCN - Wetlands & Water Resources Programme
    Lakes, floodplains, marshes and deltas: our water bodies and wetlands are the home of a wide variety of plants and animals. They sustain thousands of communities with a wide range of products, such as drinking water, food and timber. But, wetlands suffer from over-extraction of fresh water, overuse of their resources, drainage and pollution. They are blocked by dams or turned into agricultural land. Already 50% of the world's wetlands have been lost. The degradation of wetlands puts the livelihoods of communities and the biological diversity at risk. Over 800 freshwater species worldwide are now threatened with extinction.

    Environmental News Network
    Since 1993, the Environmental News Network has been working to educate the world about environmental issues facing our Earth. We began as a monthly print publication, called Environmental News Briefing, and two years later discovered the Internet as an effective means of reaching a broader, more diverse audience. Our modest print beginnings have led to a multi-faceted web production. Today we not only offer timely environmental news, but live chats, interactive quizzes, daily feature stories, forums for debate, audio, video and more. These components are all aimed at educating our users about the major issues, while at the same time giving them the tools to make a difference in their own community. We are not an activist publication, but instead try to present information from all sides so our users can make their own decisions.

    Rivers Watch East & S.E. Asia.
    Rivers Watch East and Southeast Asia (RWESA) is a network of NGOs and peoples' organizations from East and Southeast Asia - supported by their allies internationally - that was formed in July 2000. The network is to stop destructive river development projects in East and SE Asia and to restore rivers to the communities who depend on them. The network currently consists of around 35 organizations from East and Southeast Asia.

    Both Ends - Netherlands.
    Both ENDS supports the work of environmental organisations, primarily in the so-called South (developing countries) and the Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries. The core of our activities is in making connections, between South and North, environment and development, and between different sectors of society. We work with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community-based organisations (CBOs) and issue-related coalitions or networks. We support inspiring, people-oriented examples of sustainable development. Viable alternatives to often damaging mainstream approaches.

    Association for International Water & Forest Studies (FIVAS).
    The Association for International Water and Forest Studies (FIVAS) is an independent organization working to obtain and disseminate information about the consequencesof large dams and hydropower projects in the Third World, and to prevent Norwegian participation in projects with significant social or environmental impacts. Our activities are based on cooperation with local organizations and activists in the Third World. We keep an eye on hydropower developments where Norwegian companies or institutions are involved. We also focus on Norway's role in international finance institutions, such as the World Bank.

    Project for Ecological Recovery (TERRA).
    Project for Ecological Recovery (PER) was officially established in 1986, the result of a series of dialogues on ecology - we called these "Eco-forum- during 1984 and 1985.Almost 200 environmental, student and Buddhist activists, rural and social development workers, academics, artists, journalists and government officials attended these monthly meetings over the period of two years. One of the conclusions of our discussions was that a full- time project was needed to catalyze and support the growth of an environmental movement in Thailand, and to search for development alternatives that are less destructive and allow human beings to live in harmony with nature and each other. Another conclusion emerging from the discussions was that all people in society should participate in the learning process to bring about environmental awareness and social change.
